Copacabana is a borough situated in the southern part of Rio de Janeiro and is popular for its 4km beach. It begins from Princesa Isabel Avenue and ends at Posto Seis. The average temperature here is about 33 degrees Celsius throughout the year. There are several means of transportation in going to and from Copacabana such as through subway, bus and taxi.
Accommodation at Copacabana is quite expensive since almost all events like New Years Eve, concert shows, official beach sports events for Olympics and others are being held along Copacabana beach. It is also a popular beach for sunbathing with its white sand and waters that never get rough.
Copacabana is more than just a beach because it represents more of Rio de Janiero. The center of all the activities held at Rio happen here at Copacabana beach. Almost all kinds of beach sports and other beach activities are present here. Beach volleyball, beach soccer, surfing and a lot more happen here especially during summer. All kinds of people, from ordinary to most popular Brazilian Actors, soccer players and other famous and prominent individuals are common along the beach of Copacabana. Every day, you will find and meet people, young and old, jogging in the big side walk.
The sand bank of Copacabana beach is narrower at both ends while some spots in the center are very wide. Copacabana beach offers more than its beautiful sand and beach sports activities. Cafes, restaurants and nightclubs are common along the streets. On every 50 yards or so are some beach kiosk where you can stop anytime for a beer, coconut or a quick snack.
Of course going out for meal is a very special moment for me during my travel. I always want the most satisfying meal for my big tummy. At Copacabana every kind of cuisine is available with them be it Italian, French, Oriental and of course Brazilian. Almost all restaurants here start with a basket with rolls, bread and assorted spreads. If you want cariocas make sure you also have a cup of strong, very black but with very good taste coffee or espresso. Expect also that the friendly waiters will not serve you iced water, instead you will be given a bottle of sparkling or non-sparkling Brazilian mineral water that really tastes good.
There are several adventure tours at Copacabana like helicopter and favela tours, hang gliding, hiking at Pedra de Gavera , Sugarloaf and Serra dos Orgaos, horseback riding and a lot more.
With all these characteristics of the beach, every vacationer and adventurous traveler will surely enjoy coming here. Truly, Copacabana is really one of the best destinations for a great tourist and explorer like me.
